Archives and Research
Our library is one of our finest sources for information concerning our Methodism from its beginnings in England with the Wesley's, and continuing through it’s early establishment in America, through more recent events such as the unification with the Evangelical United Brethren Church in 1968. We want to tell the whole story and the library enables us to do just this. Added to this is a very fine selection of Methodist biographies including handwritten diaries. We also have a complete set of Conference journals from the beginning along with Methodist disciplines. In addition to the Wesleyanna we have a magnificent collection of Georgia history containing many rare treasures. A principle contributor to this collection was Dr. Sam Sherouse, collector of Georgianna. None of this material is available for circulation and our rarest books are only available with the assistance of museum staff. Some of our rarest books are kept in a climate control vault for maximum protection along with other documents such as the Wesleyan Christian Advocate (which is in both bound and microfilm form) that dates back to 1828. It is amazing how often we receive requests for research in these wonderful facilities. And it is always our pleasure to help you delve into your history. Please email us your research requests to methmuse@bellsouth.net. NEW ADDITIONS TO RESEARCH LIBRARY "Grace Sufficient is a story of Methodist women's spiritual empowerment that gave them 'radical spiritual egalitarianism' in a male domninated culture. It's about women whose faith shaped their daily life, church, and social context." (Alice G. Knotts) An indispenable guide for all United Methodists - especially pastors, lay leaders, church council members, confirmation and new member candidates and their instructors, and seminarians - this book is presented in a practical, down-to-earth manner for easy use by both individuals and classes, clergy and lay. It highlights the functions and connectional relationships within the organization, beginning with the local church and continuing through connectional organs in districts, annual conferences and their agencies, juridictional conferences and their agencies, the General Conference, the general agencies of the Church, and the Judicial Council.
